Emlyn Hughes
Emlyn Walter Hughes is an English football player. He started his career in 1964 at Blackpool before moving to Liverpool in 1967. He made 665 appearances for Liverpool and was captain of the team with four championships and one FA Cup win on the 1970. in Liverpool in 1977; and two UEFA Cup titles. Hughes won the Writer's Player of the Year award in 1977. Hughes completed English football's full national title when he won the League Cup with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1980. In addition to Wolves, he went on to play for Rotherham United, Hull City, Mansfield Town and Swansea City. Hughes has made 62 appearances for the England national team, the team of which he is also captain. After retiring from football, he worked as a media officer, mainly for the BBC. He was appointed as OBE in 1980 for his services to sports. Hughes died of a brain tumor at the age of 57 in 2004 .
