Fred Brathwaite, better known as Fab 5 Freddy, is an American visual artist, filmmaker and hip hop pioneer. He emerged in the creative underground scene of downtown New York in the late 1970s as a cameraman and regular guest on Glenn O'Brien's public access cable TV show. There, he met Chris Stein and Debbie Harry. It became immortal in 1981 when Harry hit Blondie's "Rapture" song "Fab 5 Freddy Told Me Everything Was Fly". In the late 1980s, Fab 5 Freddy became Yo! MTV Raps.
