Manuel Carlos Valls Galfetti is a French Hispanic politician who was a member of Barcelona City Council from June 2019. He was Prime Minister of France from 2014 to 2016 under President François Hollande. Born in Barcelona to a Spanish father and a Swiss mother, Valls was mayor of Évry from 2001 to 2012 and was first elected to the French Parliament of Essonne in 2002. He is considered the mayor of Évry from 2001 to 2012. the social liberal wing of the Socialist Party, shares common orientations with Blaiism. He was Minister of the Interior from 2012 to 2014 and Prime Minister from 2014 to 2016. He was a member of the Socialist Party and their primary candidate for the 2017 presidential election, losing Socialist Party nomination in the second round before Benoît Hamon. After the defeat, he supported Emmanuel Macron while earlier he pledged to support the socialist candidate. In the 2017 parliamentary elections, he was reelected narrowly as a congressman.
