Pier Giorgio Di Cicco is an Italian-Canadian poet. In 2005, he became the second winner of the Toronto Poet Award. Born in Arezzo, Italy, his family immigrated to Canada in 1952. Di Cicco grew up in several cities in North America, including Baltimore, Maryland, Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario. In the early 1970s, he studied at the University of Toronto. While working part-time as a bartender at the university, he began to publish poetry in small magazines. He has since written 13 collections of poetry, and in 1978 he edited a collection of poems by Canadian-Italian poets, Roman Candles. His poems, made up of profound images in free stanzas - with lines made up of unequal syllables and vacuums - often refer to the experience of immigrants and Italian family of di Cicco.
