Pradip Kumar Banerjee is a former professional football player from India who played as a striker for the Indian national football team. He was also captain of the national team and later became coach of the national team. He has represented India in 45 official matches and scored 15 official goals for the country. He was one of the first to receive the Arjuna Prize, when the award was held in 1961. He received the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 1990 and was named Indian Soccer Player of the 20th Century by the IFFHS. In 2004, he received the FIFA Certificate of Merit, the highest honor awarded by FIFA. Banerjee died at 12:40 pm on March 20, 2020. After suffering from age-related issues, he has been receiving life support at a hospital in Calcutta since March 2. He also has a history of Parkinson's disease, dementia and heart problems.
