Slava Raskaj
Slava Raškaj is a Croatian painter, considered the greatest Croatian watercolor artist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Deaf from birth, Raškaj was educated in Vienna and Zagreb, where His mentor was the famous Croatian painter Bela Čikoš Sesija. During the 1890s his works were exhibited throughout Europe, notably at the 1900 Expo in Paris. At the age of twenty, Raškaj was diagnosed with acute depression and was treated for the last three years of his life before dying in 1906 of tuberculosis in Zagreb. The value of his work was largely ignored by art historians in the following decades, but in the late 1990s and early 2000s interest in his work was aroused.
