She began her career in the political rock group Kabyle Atakor, before leaving the country after a series of murder threats. In 1999, Massi performed at the Femmes d'Algérie concert in Paris, with a recording contract with Island Records. Massi's music, which stands out as acoustic guitars, exhibits influences from Western musical styles such as rock, country or Portuguese fado, but sometimes incorporates Eastern musical influences and western instruments East like oud as well as African musical style. Massi sings in classical Arabic, Algerian Arabic, French, sometimes English and Berber Kabyle, often using more than one language in the same song.
