Victor August Herbert is an Irish-American composer, cellist and conductor trained in Germany. Although Herbert had an important career as a cello soloist and conductor, he is best known for composing the many successful operettas that premiered on Broadway from the 1890s until the World. war I. He is also prominent among the composers of Tin Pan Alley and later as the founder of the American Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers. A talented composer, Herbert produced two operas, one cantata, 43 operettas, 10 accessory tracks, 31 orchestral arrangements, 9 orchestral arrangements, 9 cello mixes, five for violin with piano orchestra, 22 piano compositions and many songs, choir and orchestral compositions of works by other composers, among others. In the early 1880s, Herbert began his career as a cellist in Vienna, Austria and Stuttgart, Germany, during which time he began to compose orchestral music.
