Quand Argent s'est séparé, il a fondé Phoenix avec Bob Henrit et Jim Rodford. Le groupe a enregistré trois albums avec CBS Records et a effectué une tournée en Europe avant de se séparer. Rodford a rejoint Kinks, Verity et Henrit ont rejoint Charlie, pour enregistrer un album avec RCA Records. Verity a produit les albums Phoenix et Charlie ainsi que les premiers albums saxons. Au début des années 1980, Verity a travaillé avec Brian Connolly pour tenter de le faire devenir un artiste solo. Un single, "Hypnotized" est sorti sur Carrere Records en 1982 produit par Verity et écrit par Joe Lynn Turner. Verity faisait partie du groupe de soutien Encore de Connolly lorsqu'ils ont soutenu Pat Benatar au début de 1983.
