Bruce Arthur Johnston is een Amerikaanse muzikant, zanger, songwriter, songwriter en platenproducent die sinds 1965 vooral bekend is als lid van de Beach Boys. Johnston werkt ook samen. Met Terry Melcher, als duo Bruce & Terry en met de surfband Rip Chords, en schreef Barry Manilow's hit uit 1975, "I Write the Songs". Johnston, geboren in Illinois, groeide op in Los Angeles en leerde in zijn jonge jaren klassieke piano. Toen hij op de middelbare school zat, arrangeerde en speelde hij zijn eerste hit, "Teen Beat" van Sandy Nelson, en werkte hij ook met muzikanten als Kim Fowley en Phil Spector. Een van de eerste optredens van Johnston was als lid van de windsurfgroep Gamblers voordat hij een productieteam werd bij Columbia Records. In 1965 trad Johnston toe tot de Beach Boys om live op te treden, aanvankelijk ter vervanging van Brian Wilson, mede-oprichter van de band.
