Bruce Johnston
Bruce Arthur Johnston is an American musician, singer, songwriter, songwriter and record producer who is best known as a member of the Beach Boys since 1965. Johnston also collaborates. With Terry Melcher, as a duo Bruce & Terry and with the surf band Rip Chords, and wrote Barry Manilow's 1975 hit song, "I Write the Songs". Born in Illinois, Johnston grew up in Los Angeles and learned classical piano in his early years. When he was in high school he arranged and played his first hit record, "Teen Beat" by Sandy Nelson, and also worked with musicians like Kim Fowley and Phil Spector. One of Johnston's first gigs was as a member of windsurfing group Gamblers before becoming a production team at Columbia Records. In 1965, Johnston joined the Beach Boys to perform live, initially replacing band co-founder Brian Wilson. Johnston first appeared on the band's records as a singer in "California Girls".
