Amon Amarth is een Zweedse melodieuze death metal band uit Tumba, opgericht in 1992. De band ontleent zijn naam aan de Sindarijnse naam van Mount Doom, een vulkaan in het Midden-aarde van J.R.R. Tolkien. Hun teksten gaan meestal over Viking-mythologie en geschiedenis, en dus zijn ze in verband gebracht met Viking-metal, hoewel de band zelf liever melodieuze death metal wordt genoemd. De band bestaat uit leadgitarist Olavi Mikkonen, zanger Johan Hegg, bassist Ted Lundström, ritmegitarist Johan Söderberg en drummer Jocke Wallgren. Amon Amarth heeft elf studioalbums, één compilatiealbum, één EP, één videoalbum en tien muziekvideo's uitgebracht. Hun eerste studioalbum, Once Sent from the Golden Hall, debuteerde in 1998. Er volgden nog vijf studio-releases, voordat de band doorbrak met het album Twilight of the Thunder God uit 2008 dat op nummer 10 binnenkwam in de Zweedse albumcharts en Nr. 50 op de Amerikaanse Billboard 200.
