Abram Chasins is an American composer, pianist, piano teacher, lecturer, musicologist, music broadcaster, radio manager and author. Born in Manhattan, New York, he attended cultural ethics schools and conducted further studies through the Columbia University Open School. He studied piano with Ernest Hutcheson and composed with Rubin Goldmark at the Juilliard School of Music before going to Curtis Academy of Music in Philadelphia, where he continued to study piano with Józef Hofmann. In 1931, he studied music analysis with Sir Donald Tovey in London. Chasins' career as a pianist spanned from 1927 to 1947. He performed many solo productions and performed with major orchestras in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe. On 1 January 1929, he performed his # 1 Piano Concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra for the first time, under the direction of Ossip Gabrilowitsch.
