Alan Dawa Dolma, known by his stage name Alan, is a Tibetan singer born in Kham-Khangdi. Alan is known for her signature "Tibetan whimper", often incorporated into her music. She graduated from PLA Academy of the Arts, majoring in vocal and erhu, in which she has performed since childhood. While in college, Alan released a cover album titled Shengsheng Zui Rulan. In early 2006, she auditioned for the Japanese label Avex Trax and was then contracted as their first Chinese artist. In late 2007, Alan moved to Tokyo and made his debut with "Ashita e no Sanka". She recorded the theme song for the movie Red Cliff, which made a wide appearance and was featured in her first Japanese studio album, Voice of Earth. In 2009, her ninth single "Kuon no Kawa" came at number three on the Oricon Weekly Chart, the highest ranking by a singer in China. Her second Japanese studio album, My Life, was released in the same year.
