Albert Gleizes is a great 20th century French artist, theorist and philosopher who proclaims himself the founder of cubism and influences the School of Paris. Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on cubism, Du "Cubisme", in 1912. Gleizes is a founding member of the artistic group Section d'Or. He was also a member of Der Sturm, and many of his original theoretical papers were most popular in Germany, where, especially at the Bauhaus, his ideas were carefully researched. Gleizes has spent four important years in New York City and has been instrumental in America's awareness of modern art. He is a member of the Association of Dependents (Société des Artistes Indépendants), founder of the Society of Ernest-Renan, and founder and participant of Créteil Monastery. Gleizes regularly exhibits at Léonce Rosenberg's Galerie de l'Effort Moderne in Paris; he is also the founder, organizer and director of Abstraction-Création.
