Alberto Savinio [alˈbɛrto saˈvinjo], born Andrea Francesco Alberto de Chirico is an Italian writer, artist, musician, journalist, essayist, playwright, designer and composer. He is the brother of the "metaphysical" painter Giorgio de Chirico. His works often deal with philosophical and psychological topics, and he is also very interested in philosophy of art. During his lifetime, Savinio composed five operas and wrote at least forty-seven books, including many autobiographies and memoirs. He also wrote extensively and produced works for theaters. His work received mixed reviews throughout his life, often due to his widespread use of modernist techniques. He was influenced by the time of Apollinaire, Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Max Jacob and Fernand Léger, and had a significant influence on the surrealism movement.
