Alceo Dossena is an Italian sculptor. His agents market his works as originals by other sculptors. Dossena was born in Cremona. He was a talented mason and stone sculptor, good at copying styles of classical Greek, Roman, medieval and Renaissance art and artists such as Giovanni Pisano, Simone Martini and Donatello. He is clever enough that his agent Alfredo Fasoli sells them to museums and collectors as genuine antiques. One of them includes a sculptural tomb believed to be of Mino da Fiesole which was sold to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. In 1928, Dossena found that some of his works in large collections were antiques - and also found that his dealers held most of the money; he only gets $ 200 per sale. He reveals his cunning and pursues his agents. Dossena has defended himself against allegations of infringement by saying that he did not know that others were selling his work on false grounds.
