Alice Hamilton is an American physician, scientific researcher and author best known for being a leading expert in occupational health and a pioneer in the field of toxic substances. Hamilton was educated at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. She became professor of pathology in the School of Women's Medicine at Northwestern University in 1897. In 1919, she became the first woman appointed to the faculty of Harvard University. His scientific research focuses on the study of occupational diseases and the dangerous effects of industrial metals and chemical compounds. In addition to her scientific work, Hamilton was also a welfare reformer, humanitarian, peace activist, and volunteer resident at Hull House in Chicago from 1887 to 1919. She received numerous honors and awards, including the Albert Lasker Public Service Award for his contribution to public service.
