His work has received great international attention. She is recognized as the first Oscar nominee and one of the last remaining stars of the golden age of Hollywood cinema. Lansbury was born to a middle class family in central London, the daughter of North Irish actress Moyna Macgill and British politician Edgar Lansbury. To escape the Blitz, in 1940, she moved to the United States, studying theater in New York. Continuing in Hollywood in 1942, she signed with MGM and landed her first film roles, in Gaslight and The Picture of Dorian Gray, winning her two Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe.
