Anies Rasyid Baswedan is an Indonesian academic, activist, and politician who currently serves as the Governor of Jakarta since October 2017. A student activist and political analyst before entering public service, he served as rector of Paramadina University before being appointed to be Minister of Education and Culture in Joko Widodo administration. He is the founder of Indonesia Mengajar, a program that selects, trains, and assigns university graduates to serve in a one-year teaching mission across the country.

From 2014 to 2016, he served as the Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia. In 2017, he ran for Jakarta's governorship.
Northern Illinois University awarded him a PhD in political science, and the University of Maryland awarded him a master's degree in international security and economic policy.

AR Baswedan, his grandpa, was Indonesia's first Minister of Information and a founding father. Mutiara, Mikail, Kaisar, and Ismail are his four children.
