Aynur Doğan is a contemporary Kurdish singer and songwriter from Turkey. She was born in Çemişgezek, a small mountain town in the province of Dersim in Turkey and fled to Istanbul in 1992. She learned to sing saz and türkü at an influential music school in Istanbul, Arif Sağ Müsik. In 2004, she released the album Keçe Kurdan on the Kalan Müzik label. Keçe Kurdan was banned in 2005 because of the song's two words, Keçe and Ceng, which a court in Diyarbakır said would encourage women to leave their spouses, to move up the mountain and thereby promote the rift. The following year, the ban was lifted. Aynur is a singer specializing in traditional Kurdish folk music with a contemporary sensibility influenced by Western music. Her superb vocal style and her success in the musical world have enabled her to become the representative Kurdish representative in Turkey and in the world.
