He is one of the producers nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture for Gosford Park, in which he also appeared. Balaban is best known for his appearances in the comedy Christopher Guest Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration and in the films Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel and the Isle of.
