Bob Wilber
Robert Sage Wilber is an American jazz musician, saxophonist and conductor. Although his lineup encompasses a wide variety of jazz genres, Wilber is a strong advocate of classical styles, working throughout his career to present traditional jazz music in a contemporary style. He performed with many famous jazz leaders in the 1950s and 1960s, including Bobby Hackett, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Jack Teagarden and Eddie Condon. In the late 1960s he was an early member of the world's largest jazz group and in the early 1970s Soprano Summit, a group that had gained wide attention. In the late 1970s he formed the Bechet Heritage Band. Wilber has been active in teaching jazz, most notably as director of the Smithsonian Jazz Repertory Ensemble. He has written for films, including The Cotton Club. In his autobiography, Music Was Not Enough, he recounts his childhood, his meeting with his mentor Sidney Bechet in 1946, and his struggles as a musician in the 1950s and 1960s
