Robert Arthur Allison is a retired American professional racing car driver and owner. Allison is the founder of Alabama Gang, a group of drivers based in Hueytown, Alabama due to its many short tracks with high pockets. Allison competed in the NASCAR Cup Series from 1961 to 1988, while regularly competing in short-distance events throughout his career. He has also raced in IndyCar, Trans-Am and Can-Am. Named one of the 50 best racers of NASCAR and a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, he was the 1983 Winston Cup champion and won the Daytona 500 in 1978, 1982 and 1988. England His brother Donnie Allison is also a famous pilot, so is he. Two sons have passed away, Clifford and Davey Allison. Bobby and Donnie's televised duel with Cale Yarborough at Daytona 500 in 1979 was credited with introducing NASCAR to audiences nationwide. Allison is unusual for having played successfully with his own low-budget team for most of his career.
