She began her career in television, with appearances in Twin Peaks, Party of Five, Seinfeld, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Blossom and Sports Night. She is a regular actor in the sitcoms Scorch and The Help. Strong has had supporting roles in several movies, including Starship Troopers, Black Dog, The Deep End of the Ocean, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, and The Work and the Glory. She is best known for her role as Mary Alice Young in the ABC comedy television series Desperate Housewives, for which she was nominated for two Emmy Awards. Strong then played the role of Ann Ewing in the Dallas soap opera TNT Golden Hour. In 2016, she took on a recurring role as Lillian Luthor in Supergirl. Strong appears as a recurring character in the second season of Netflix Original 13 Reasons Why, as Nora Walker, Bryce's mother.
