Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen is an American singer, songwriter and songwriter, both solo artist and frontman of the E Street Band. Hailing from Jersey Shore, he received critical acclaim for his albums from the early 1970s and gained worldwide fame with the release of Born to Run in 1975. Throughout a career spanning five decades, Springsteen has been known for poetic and socially conscious lyrics as well as energetic stage performances, sometimes lasting four hours. He has been nicknamed "The Boss". He has recorded both rock albums and folk works, and his lyrics often evoke the experiences and struggles of the American working class. Born in the United States is Springsteen's most commercially successful album, making it one of the most successful rock figures of the 1980s. It was certified 15 × platinum in the United States and sold 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Known simply as The Boss, this rock legend struck fame in 1975 with his critically acclaimed album Born to Run and again in 1984 with his rock anthem "Born in the U.S.A." He won his 20th career Grammy Award in 2009 when his song "Working on a Dream" took Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.
He felt deep alienation while attending high school and did not appear at his graduation. He failed his physical examinations after being drafted to fight in Vietnam and never served.
He performed with the power trio Earth in the late 1960s and, in 1971, he performed with Steve Van Zandt and Steel Mill.
He inducted Bono into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
