Bryan David "Butch" Vig is an American musician, musician and record producer best known as the drummer and co-producer of alternative rock band Garbage and producer of the album. Nirvana sells Nevermind diamonds. His work later earned him the nickname The Never-Forgotten Man. Originally from Wisconsin, Vig has lived in Madison for most of his career, from studying at the University of Wisconsin to performing in local bands Spooner and Fire Town. Eventually, he set up his own recording studio in Madison, Smart Studios, with his band friend Steve Marker. After rising to fame as a producer, he founded and played drums with Garbage, who sold 17 million records over a 10-year period. Vig returned to full-time production when Garbage retired in 2005. The band reunited again in 2010 to document their fifth album. In 2012, Vig ranked 9th in the Top 50 of the largest NME manufacturers.
