Carl Edwin Wieman is an American physicist and educator at Stanford University. In 1995, while studying at the University of Colorado at Boulder, he and Eric Allin Cornell produced the first real Bose-Einstein condensate, and in 2001, they and Wolfgang Ketterle were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Wieman currently holds a joint appointment as Professor of Physics and Professor at Stanford Graduate School, as well as Professor of DRC at Stanford University School of Engineering. In 2020, Wieman received the Yidan Educational Research Award for "his contribution to the development of new techniques and tools in STEM education." Quote.
