Caroline Amelia Nation, commonly known as the Carrie or Carry Nation, was an American activist, a radical member of the anti-alcohol mood movement before the introduction of Prohibition. The country is known to have attacked alcohol service establishments with a smoking machine. The country is also concerned about the bodily clothing of women; she refuses to wear corsets and urges women not to wear them because of their damage to vital organs. She describes herself as "a cow dog that runs along the feet of Jesus, barking at what he doesn't like," and declares divine ordination to promote modesty by breaking down bars. The spelling of the first name of the Country differs; Both "Carrie" and "Carry" are considered correct. The official documents say "Carrie," which Nation has used for most of her life; the name "Carry" was used by her father in the family Bible.
