Claire Falkenstein is an American sculptor, painter, printer, jewelry designer, and teacher best known for her large-scale abstract public metal and glass sculptures. Falkenstein is one of the most experimental and productive American artists of the 20th century. Falkenstein constantly explores means, techniques and processes with exceptional audacity and intelligence. Although she is respected in the booming art scene after WWII in Europe and the United States, her lack of interest in the commercialization of art and her commuting movement from urban areas make her she an elusive character. Falkenstein first worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, then in Paris and New York, and finally in Los Angeles. She joined radical arts groups such as the Gutai Group in Japan and other arts in Paris and secured a permanent top position, which she held until her death in 1997 .
