James Danforth Quayle is an American politician and lawyer, was the 44th Vice President of the United States from 1989 to 1993, represented the United States from 1977 to 1981, and was United States Senator from Indiana from 1981 to 1989 . Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Quayle spent most of his childhood in Paradise Valley, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. He married Marilyn Tucker in 1972 and received a JD from the Robert H. McKinney Law School of Indiana University in 1974. He and Marilyn practiced law in Huntington, Indiana, before he was elected to the US House of Representatives. 1976. In 1980, he was elected to the US Senate. In 1988, Vice President and Republican presidential candidate George H. W. Bush chose Quayle as their running friend. His vice-presidential debate against Democratic candidate Lloyd Bentsen drew attention to the saying "Senator, you are not Jack Kennedy".
