David John Cawdell Irving is an English author and Holocaust genocide who wrote about the military and political history of World War II, with a focus on Nazi Germany. His works include The Destruction of Dresden, Hitler's War, Churchill's War, and Goebbels: Mastermind of the Third Reich. In his writings, he argued that Adolf Hitler was not aware of the extermination of the Jews, or if he did, he opposed it. Although Irving's claims and negative views on Germany's war crimes during WWII have never been taken seriously by mainstream historians, he has been recognized for his understanding of the Nazis and his ability to unearth new historical documents. Irving tore himself from the mainstream of historical research in the 1970s when he began to argue that Hitler neither ordered the extermination of Jews nor knew anything about the Holocaust.
