Richard Durant Cary is an American jazz musician, composer and orchestra. Cary received a Bachelor of Music from Wesleyan University in 1938 and began working in Connecticut and New York. He completed full-time solo work with Nick at Greenwich Village, New York in 1941 and performed with Joe Marsala in 1942. In 1943 he also worked as a arranger for Benny Goodman and performance. performed with the Casa Loma Orchestra and Brad Gowans. While in the army in 1944-1946 stationed on Long Island, he tried to continue recording with Muggsy Spanier and Wild Bill Davison among others. After his debut, he worked with Billy Butterfield, then pianist in Louis Armstrong's original All-Star lineup in 1947–48. In 1949-1950 he was in the orchestra of Jimmy Dorsey, and during the 1950s worked with Eddie Condon, Pee Wee Russell, Max Kaminsky, Bud Freeman, Jimmy McPartland, and since 1957 worked with Bobby Hackett in a long time at Henry Hudson hotel in New York City.
