Henry Jones Jr., better known as Hank Jones, is an American jazz pianist, band, orchestra, and composer. Critics and musicians describe Jones as an eloquent, lyrical and impeccable man. In 1989, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded him the NEA Jazz Master Award. He also received the 2003 Legend of Life Award for American Jazz Composers, Writers and Publishers. In 2008 he received the National Art Medal. On April 13, 2009, Hartford University awarded Jones an honorary doctorate in music for his musical achievements. Jones has recorded over 60 albums under his own name and countless other albums as a troubadour, including Cannonball Adderley's popular Somethin 'Else album. On May 19, 1962, he played the piano when actress Marilyn Monroe sang her famous song "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to the then President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
