She is best known for her role as Sarah Jane Smith in the British television series Doctor Who, appearing as a regular member from 1973 to 1976, alongside Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, and reprising the role. in Doctor Who and Its Fallout, K-9 and Sarah Jane's Company and Adventures. Sladen has been interested in ballet and theater since her childhood and began appearing on stage in the mid-1960s, although she is now generally a stage manager. She moved to London in 1970 and won several television roles, with her performance in the detective film Z-Cars leading to her nomination for a role in Doctor Who. After leaving drama, she took on other television and radio roles before retiring to raise a family in the mid-1980s
