Evan Lloyd Tanner is an American professional mixed martial arts fighter, writer, astronaut and adventurer. Before that, he held the UFC midsize championship title and was the first American to win the Pancrase Neo-Blood Championship in Tokyo, Japan. Tanner won the UFC midsize championship title at UFC 51, stopping David Terrell with shots in the first round. He is considered a pioneer in the sport of MMA and was one of the first martial artists to use an elbow as an effective method of hitting on the ground and in fighting stance. Tanner was seen as something of an anomaly in the MMA, as he started his professional career with great success despite learning the sport mainly through educational videos. He was also one of the first MMA fighters to use social media as a platform to connect with his fans.
