Francisco Franco Bahamonde is a Spanish general who led nationalist forces in the overthrow of the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War and then ruled Spain since 1939. until 1975 as dictator, with the title Caudillo. This period of Spanish history, from the victory of nationalism to the death of Franco, is often referred to as Franco's Spain or Franco's dictatorship. Born in Ferrol, Galicia, to a family of high-class soldiers, Franco served in the Spanish Army as a cadet at the Toledo Infantry Academy from 1907 to 1910. While serving in Morocco, he rose through the ranks to become a brigadier general in 1926, at the age of 33, becoming the youngest general in Spain. Two years later, Franco became director of the General Military Academy of Zaragoza. As a conservative and monarchist, Franco regrets the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a second Republic in 1931
