During his radio career, Bough is known for his flexible, comfortable and professional approach to live broadcasts, once described as "the hardest performer on British television" . In 1987, Michael Parkinson said: "If my life depended on running a good TV show, then Bough would be my first choice to take charge." In 1988, Bough was fired by the BBC after it was revealed that he used cocaine and used prostitutes. He then presented shows on London Weekend Television, ITV, Sky TV and LBC radio station in London before retiring in 1998
