Gerald Stern
Gerald Stern is an American poet, essayist, and educator. Author of twenty poetry books and four essays, Stern has taught literature and creative writing at Temple University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Raritan Valley Community College, and the Iowa Writers Conference. Since 2009, Stern has been an outstanding poet and has been a member of the Department of Drew University's Graduate Program to earn a Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry. Stern graduated from the Universities of Pittsburgh and Columbia University and attended the University of Paris for graduate studies. He received the 1998 National Book of Poetry Prize for This Time: New and Selected Poems, and was named a finalist in 1991 for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Leaving Another Kingdom: Selected Poems. In 2000, New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman named Stern the first recipient of the state's Poet Award.
