Hannah More
Hannah More is an English religious writer and philanthropist, best known as a poet and playwright in the circle of Johnson, Reynolds and Garrick, as a writer of the ethical and religious topics, at the same time a practical philanthropist. Born in Bristol, she taught at a school founded there by her father and began to write plays. She has joined London literary elite and is one of the main members of Bluestocking. Her plays and poetry later became more missionary and she joined a group that campaigned against the slave trade. In the 1790s, she wrote a number of inexpensive archives on ethical, religious and political topics to distribute to the literate poor. During this time, she extended ties with the schools she and her sister Martha had set up in rural Somerset. These models shaped his harshness towards the education of the poor, allowing limited reading but unable to write.
