Hans Bethe
Hans Albrecht Bethe is a German-American nuclear physicist who made important contributions to astrophysics, quantum electrodynamics and solid-state physics, and won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1967 through research work on the theory of nuclear synthesis of stars. For most of her career, Bethe was a professor at Cornell University. During World War II, he was the head of the theory department of the secret laboratory Los Alamos, where the first atomic bombs were developed. There, he played an important role in calculating the critical mass of the weapon and developing the theory behind the explosive method used in the Trinity test and the "Fat Man" weapon dropped on Nagasaki. in August 1945. After the war, Bethe also played an important role in the development of the hydrogen bomb, although he initially joined the project in the hope of proving that it could not be achieved.
