Working with husband Irving Ravetch, Frank has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the New York Film Critics Association Award and the American Writers Association's Award, as well as several nominations. Frank began her writing career after World War II, as part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Training for Young Writers, where she met her future husband for the first time. She married Ravetch in 1946, but worked independently for ten years, eventually working with him in 1957, a relationship that continued for the rest of her career. During their 33 years of collaboration, Frank and Ravetch have created scripts for a variety of films, mainly adapting works by American authors. Frank and Ravetch have maintained a close working relationship with director Martin Ritt, collaborating with him on eight film projects.
