Harry “The Hipster” Gibson, born Harry Raab, is an American pianist, singer and jazz musician. Gibson plays New York-style stride piano and boogie woogie while singing in a wild, unrestrained style. His musical career began in the late 1920s, when, under his real name, he stride piano in the jazz group Dixieland in Harlem. He continued to perform there throughout the 1930s, adding to his repertoire. Gibson loves playing Fats Waller's tunes, and when Waller listens to Gibson at a Harlem club in 1939, he hired him as his relief pianist during club dates. From 1939 to 1945, Gibson performed in Manhattan jazz clubs on 52nd Street, including Three Deuces led by Irving Alexander, and Leon and Eddie's led by Leon Enkin and Eddie Davis. Harry took the name "Gibson" from a brand of gin.
