Jean Bartik
Jean Jennings Bartik was one of the first programmers of the ENIAC computer. Bartik studied math in school and then started working at the University of Pennsylvania, first calculating ballistic trajectories manually, then using ENIAC to do just that. The other five ENIAC programmers are Betty Holberton, Ruth Teitelbaum, Kathleen Antonelli, Marlyn Meltzer and Frances Spence. Bartik and his colleagues developed and codified many fundamental programming principles while working on ENIAC, as it was the first of its kind. After working at ENIAC, Bartik continued to work for BINAC and UNIVAC, and spent time working in many engineering companies as writers, managers, engineers and programmers. She spent her final years as a real estate salesman and died in 2011 of complications of congestive heart failure. Drupal's default content management framework, Bartik, is named in his honor.
