Jerry Tarkanian is an American basketball coach. He coached college basketball for 31 seasons over five decades at three schools. He spent most of his coaching career for the UNLV Runnin 'Rebels, leading them four times to the NCAA Men's Basketball First Division Finals, winning the National Championship in 1990. Tarkanian has revolutionized the college play at UNLV, using a cornered defensive play to spur his quick onslaught. Overall, he has won more than 700 games in his university coaching career, having only failed twice in 20, never losing a season. Tarkanian was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. Tarkanian studied at the City University of Pasadena and then in the State of Fresno, earning a bachelor's degree while playing basketball.
