John Dee
John Dee is an Anglo-Welsh mathematician, astronomer, astrologer, teacher, mystic and alchemist. He was a court astronomer and advisor to Elizabeth I and spent most of his time in alchemy, divination, and Hermetic philosophy. A lover of antiques, he owned one of the largest libraries in the United Kingdom at the time. As a political adviser, he advocated the establishment of British colonies in the New World to form "the British Empire", a term he allegedly coined. Dee eventually left Elizabeth's service and began to seek additional knowledge in the deeper realms of the occult and the supernatural. He is affiliated with a number of charlatans who have traveled across Europe and accused of spying on the British crown. Upon his return to England, he found his home and library vandalized. Eventually he returned to the Queen's service, but was rejected by James I. When she was succeeded by James I. He died in poverty in London and his grave is unknown.
