Juozas Urbsys
Juozas Urbšys was an outstanding mid-war diplomat, Lithuania's last independent head of diplomacy during the interwar period and an interpreter. He served in the army from 1916 to 1922, then joined the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry. In 1938 Urbšys was appointed head and held this post until the occupation of Lithuania in 1940. Urbšys was captured by Soviet authorities in 1940 and deported to Siberia, where he spent 13 years. Next in different prisons. Urbšys died in 1991, after living long enough to see Lithuania's independence restored, and was buried at Petrašiūnai Cemetery, Kaunas.
