Kitaw Ejigu is an Ethiopian-American scientist and politician who served NASA for about four decades as chief engineer of spacecraft and satellite systems. Along with his colleagues, Kitaw invented spacecraft and rockets to support research and discovery in planetary science. He is also among the scientists who invented the flight simulator, the advanced global positioning satellite system and the aerospace missile mechanism. Prior to his trip to the United States, he was Chief Technical Advisor and Deputy Director of Ethiopia Automotive Sales and Service Company. He was the first Ethiopian aerospace scientist. Kitaw died on January 13, 2006 from a stroke on January 8, 2006 .
