A Flying Trump or Combat Ace is the military pilot registered for downing five or more enemy aircraft in aerial battles. He achieved a total of 63 aerial victories - or 63 aerial battles that resulted in the destruction of enemy planes - won in 93 combat missions. He recorded 56 nocturnal exploits, including 33 mosquitoes, and recorded more jet fighter aerial exploits than anyone during World War II and possibly in aviation history. However, this score is controversial; Research into the Royal Air Force casualties showed that Welter significantly denied Mosquito's victory. Welter was born in Cologne-Lindenthal on February 25, 1916. He joined the military service of the German Air Force in 1934 and trained as a pilot.
