Laxman Nayak or Laxman Naik is a tribal civil rights activist from southern Odisha, eastern India. He belongs to the Odisha tribe of Bhuyan. Nayak, an Odia folk hero of Koraput from the southern tip of Odisha and a cult figure among his tributes, was born in the village of Tentuliguma in the Koraput district and his father Padlam Nayak was the tribal chief and 'Mustadaar' under 'Jeypore Samasthanam' during the Madras presidency at this time. The local government acts as a branch of the UK government. Tributes under their government were abused by tax officials, forest guides and police, and tortured. Nayak succeeded in organizing the rebels against exploitation by Jeypore Samasthanam officials. This earned him recognition as a potential tribal leader and Congress added Nayak to their group.
